Sports day.

Imtiaz wrote her own curriculum for the school after consulting and visiting many different schools.  The following subjects are taught: Urdu, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Science, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Computer Studies, Art, and Physical Training.

Students participate in various co-curricular activities such as drama, debates, naat, hamd (traditional spiritual songs), qiraat (Qur’anic recitation), sports day, field trips and local writing and science competitions.  We are very proud of our numerous students who have won awards at local and regional events.

We also host and promote enrichment activities.  Past examples include:

Journalism Club

Girls and Boys learned about different aspects of journalism, practiced writing various types of articles, visited radio and newspaper stations and culminated by producing a school newspaper, The Imtiazian.

Water Project

FIELD TRIP
Field trip to Hanoi River

Eighth grade girls investigated problems in the Abbottabad related to inadequate access of clean water.  Students interviewed various women in the community to understand the various public health issues related to water.  They tested water sources for contaminants and presented their findings and recommendations before city councillors and other community members in a town hall meeting at the school.

Bridge Project

Fourth graders from Al-Imtiaz collaborated with fourth graders at British Primary School in Denver, Colorado.  They exchanged auto-biographies, journals, and pictures relating to their daily lives through e-mail.  Students discussed a variety of topics such as favourite foods, clothes and pets, in the process learning about one another’s culture.  This was an inter-disciplinary project involving geography, English writing, computer skills, and cross-cultural understanding.

Community Engagement

The Girl Guides and Boy Scouts meet regularly to organize activities such as school cleanliness, gardening, peer tutoring and mentoring programs.  Al-Imtiaz students have participated in several city garbage cleaning campaigns, tree plantations, and learning with children with disabilities.  During the 2005 national earthquake crisis, the school took a proactive role in organizing relief efforts, visiting patients at hospitals, sponsoring destroyed schools, and providing gifts and moral support to effected families.
